Official Start of Preparations for 75th Anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War

On December 26, the National Library of the Udmurt Republic has launched preparations for celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War with the meeting of local volunteer corps to be involved in the implementation of the library projects dedicated to the anniversary celebrations.

The presented projects offer a unique opportunity for volunteers to get involved in socially important projects of the Udmurt Republic, to contribute to perpetuating the memory of soldiers from Udmurtia killed in the defense of the Fatherland.

Among our major initiatives is the "Message from the Frontline" campaign (implemented since 2016), during which about 700 war time relics owned by citizens of Udmurtia – family documents of the war time period have been restored and digitized. In 2020, we plan to launch a unified electronic database of frontline documents based on the platform of the National Electronic Library of the Udmurt Republic.

The new projects launched by the Library include:

  • The regional memorial campaign "Searching for a Soldier" aimed to provide consultative assistance of libraries to families in searching for information, clarifying biography facts and perpetuating the memory of their relatives – participants of the Great Patriotic War,
  • research and exhibition project "The Geography of Memory" locating "the places of memory" of soldiers from Udmurtia who died and went missing during the Great Patriotic War. The project’s outcome will result in a multi-format document demonstrating the number and the vast geography of burial sites of our fallen soldiers.

The meeting with volunteers discussed the stages and challenges in implementing the mentioned above projects, as well as details of many other patriotic activities and events scheduled for 2020.
