World Udmurt Language Day at National Library of Udmurt Republic

On November 27, the National Library of the Udmurt Republic is running a programme of events dedicated to the World Udmurt Language Day.

From 10 am to 8 pm the Center for National and Local History Literature and Bibliography (264, Udmurtskaya st.) is staging the book exhibition "I Learn Udmurt" displaying textbooks, dictionaries, self-study guides, workbooks for the Udmurt language learners – both for beginners and those wishing to master their Udmurt.

At 6 pm we invite everyone to attend the lecture "Udmurt with a German accent". Why does the Udmurt language attract many foreign learners? Where can one learn Udmurt in Germany? Anna L. Semenova, Deputy Director of National Library of Udmurt Republic, will talk about her experience in teaching the Udmurt language at the Georg-August University of Göttingen, and share her expertise in the methodology of teaching English for German speakers. Her presentation will feature exclusive videos portraying Germans' view of Udmurtia, its authentic culture and traditions.

From 10 am to 8 pm, the Regional Center for Library Services to Blind and Visually Impaired Users (9, Lomonosova st.) will host the exhibition "The Udmurt Language at Your Fingertips" featuring books in Udmurt by Udmurt and Russian authors printed in Braille.

We also invite everyone to test knowledge of Udmurt grammar and vocabulary in our online quiz "Udmurt kyl: todmo no todmotem" ("The Udmurt language: familiar and unfamiliar") on the website of the National Library of the Udmurt Republic and our social networks accounts.

The All-Russian Municipal Forum (held at the House of Peoples' Friendship, Izhevsk) will host a presentation of the Udmurt language speaking club "Kubo" opened recently at the National Library of the Udmurt Republic. The presentation will take place at the special section dedicated to the issues of preservation and development of languages of the peoples of Russia.
