To 80th Anniversary of Péter Domokos

Till the end of January Division of National and Local History Literature and Bibliography of National Library of Udmurt Republic is staging the exhibition “The Patriarch of Finno-Ugrian Literary Studies: to 80th Anniversary of Péter Domokos".

January 15 marked the 80th anniversary of a Hungarian scientist Péter Domokos (1936–2014) – one of the most prominent researchers of Finno-Ugrian folklore and literature. Since 1971 Professor Domokos worked at the Department of Finno-Ugrian Philology at Loránd Eötvös University, Budapest. In 1973, he wrote Candidate's dissertation in the history of Udmurt literature. In 1984 – defended a doctoral thesis in the literature of minor Ural peoples. Péter Domokos authored over 30 books and 350 articles. He was appointed as honored professor of the Udmurt State University, honored Doctor of Saint-Petersburg State University. In 1989, he initiated the idea of founding the International Association of Finno-Ugrian Writers and worked as its chairman. He was also a member of International Committee of Finno-Ugrian Congresses and participated in all Finno-Ugrian and Kindred Peoples themed scientific events.


The exhibition displays academic publications by Péter Domokos (in Udmurt, Russian and Hungarian), biographical materials, articles by Udmurt researchers (A. N. Uvarov, F. K. Ermakov, V. E. Vladykin, V. M. Vanushev, A. G. Shklyaev, Z. A. Bogomolova, V. L. Shibanov) presenting a detailed and scholarly recognition of Domokos's work and ideas.
