From August 26 to September 9 Division of Literature in Foreign Languages is staging the exhibition “A Man of the Epoch: to Guillaume Apollinaire’s 135th Anniversary”.

Guillaume Apollinaire (born Wilhelm Albert Włodzimierz Apolinary Kostrowicki; 1880–1918) is considered one of the foremost French poets of the early 20th century, a leading figure in the European avant-garde and a forefather of surrealism. In European poetry he is renowned for a renewal of French classical traditions. Besides writing poetry, Apollinaire revealed artistic talent for prose and published novels, short stories and plays.

The exhibition displays books and articles in French, Russian, German and Udmurt – Apollinaire’s works in the original and in translations. Among interesting items on display are the collection of French poetry translated into Udmurt (Izhkar: Paris; 2008) featuring Apollinaire’s poems translated by P. Zakharov; Guillaume Apollinaire's biography and life story written by Czech author V. Divish; a literary critical essay by expert in French literature S. I. Velikovskiy; biographical and literary articles.
