To the National Flag Day

On 22 August Russia marks the National Flag Day. On this occasion Readers Service Division of National Library of Udmurt Republic is staging the book exhibition “The Glorious Symbol of National Greatness”.

On 22 August 1991 a white-blue-red tricolor was first raised above the Russian White House to replace the Soviet hammer-and-sickle flag. Two years later, in 1994, the National Flag Day of the Russian Federation was established by a Presidential Decree № 1714 “On the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation.”

“The Glorious Symbol of National Greatness” exhibition features books on Russian official state symbols (by M. P. Golovanov, V. S. Shergin, N. A. Soboleva) as well as resources on the history of glorious battles and wars fought under the Russian tricolor (by E. V. Tarle, L. V. Mitroshenkova).

A richly illustrated album “Simvoly I Nagrady Rossiyskoy Derzhavy” (“The Symbols and Decorations of Russia”) explores the way in which Russian symbolism (its flag, coat of arms, national anthem, service decorations) changed throughout history and portrays the lives of outstanding people who embody the glory and pride of the Russian state.
