Exhibition to the Day of the Chechen Language

On April 23 at 4 pm the National Library of the Udmurt Republic in cooperation with the Udmurt Republic’s Chechen National Cultural Center “Daymohk” is staging the exhibition “The Chechen Language and Literature in the Context of Time”. The event will take place at the House of People’s Friendship (Ordzhonikidze St., 33a).

The exhibition is timed to the Day of the Chechen Language (celebrated in Chechnya on April 25), is held within the Year of Literature in Russia and its regional slogan “Friendship of Peoples – Friendship of Literatures” and is aimed at popularization of cultural heritage of the peoples living on the territory of the Udmurt Republic. It is the first joint event of the library organized in cooperation with the Chechen National Cultural Center “Daymohk” established in 2004 and run by Ilman Makhmudovich Evsultanov. Based in Izhevsk, the center has branches in Sarapul and Votkinsk, Balezinsky, Yarsky and Yakshur-Bodiinsky Districts and brings together over 500 Chechens living in the Udmurt Republic. The Center serves to strengthen friendly ties between the peoples of the Udmurt Republic and the Chechen People, to preserve and to promote the Chechen national culture and identity.


The exhibition “The Chechen Language and Literature in the Context of Time” comprises two sections – “The Chechen Language as the Reflection of National Culture” and “The Chechen Literature – from Origins to Present” displaying scientific and journalistic publications, fiction and art books (monographs, popular science titles, periodicals, documentaries; prose and poetry) on native history of the North Caucasus, its spiritual and artistic culture, the process of the Chechen language evolution and its writing system development. Among items on display are also the best examples of the Chechen national literature – from folklore to contemporary novels, novellas, short stories and essays.


The presentation ceremony will feature national music performances and readings of poems by Chechen authors.


The event will be participated by the representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of National Policy of the Udmurt Republic, the Udmurt State University, chairmen of national cultural associations of Udmurtia, librarians.
