Literary Club Meeting in March

On March 30 at 6 pm Literary Club of National Library of Udmurt Republic is inviting to join a drama evening “War Poems and Songs” dedicated to 70 years of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The Soviet war poetry disclaimed the popular saying: “When the cannons are heard, the muses are silent”. Misery and ravage of war, heroism of soldiers inspired a dramatic outburst of a patriotic literary activity. Many poems and songs of the Great Patriotic War (“The Sacred Stone”, “Dark is the Night”,  “Oh, roads”, “My Beloved”…) are still well-known in Russia, demonstrating their place in the country’s cultural heritage, its national beliefs and values.

The evening will feature drama readings of poems written by Pavel Antokolsky, Mikhail Kulchitskiy, Anna Akhmatova, Olga Bergholz, Semen Gudzenko, Yulia Drunina, Nikolay Mayorov, Vera Inber, David Samoylov, Konstantin Simonov, whose patriotic poetry was published in front line editions, broadcasted on radio, spread by word of mouth and in war diaries. A number of Izhevsk's most popular Izhevsk rock musicians will perform beloved Great Patriotic War songs – “Zemlyanka”, "In a Forest Near the Front", “Evening on the Roadstead”, “Blue Kerchief”, “Smuglyanka” and some others.

All are welcome to attend.
