What was the attitude of the Japanese to the body?.How did they use it? And who possessed it? What did the Japanese wear? Why did they think that men should live long? What were they ashamed of and proud of? How did they cure and strengthen themselves? How did their views of the body influence the history? What role did these beliefs play in preserving the national identity?
These and other issues will be raised in a lecture by Alexander Meshcheriakov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, professor of Institute for Oriental Cultures and Antiquity of the Russian State University for the Humanities, laureate of the Prosvetitel-2012 Award for the book “Emperor Meiji and his Japan”.
