On September 10 the National Library of the Udmurt Republic is staging the book exhibition “Writers and Time: to the 80th anniversary of the Union of Writers of the Udmurt Republic” as part of gala celebrations that will take place at the State National Theatre of the Udmurt Republic (M. The Union of Writers of the UASSR was established in June 13-15, 1934 at the regional writer’s conference. Initially the union had 14 members confirmed by A. M. Gorky. At present the organization comprises over 90 members — prose writers, poets, playwrights, literary experts and critics writing in the Udmurt, Russian and Tatar languages. The Union’s principle objectives are to contribute to the development of national culture, to preserve and popularize the literary heritage, to advance professionalism of young authors, to network with other Finno-Ugrian writers’ unions.

The exhibition “Writers and Time” covers functioning of the Union of Writers of the Udmurt Republic in various years and displays reference and encyclopedic publications, critical articles, outlines, essays; almanacs and collected works by young authors issued by the Writers’ Union; literary magazines founded by the regional creative public organization as well as publications giving a retrospective look at the emergence, establishment and evolution of Udmurt literature (fiction by classical authors, modern fiction, literary-historical research).

From September 25 to 30 the exhibition will be open to the public at the Center of National and Local History Literature and Bibliography (Udmurtskaya St., 264).

All are welcome to attend.
